Nitin Gadkari inaugurates 26 National Highway Projects worth 17,500 INR-Crore in Assam

The Union Minister for Roads Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Tuesday, October 31, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 26 National Highway projects with an estimated investment of 17,500 INR-Crore in Guwahati, Assam. The government aims to modernize the road transport network in the state with these projects.

Some of these projects are- 

  • Dibrugarh-Tinsukia-Ledo project: The project aims to enhance interstate connectivity between Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, promote trade and tourism, and boost strategic presence.
  • Silchar to Lailapur section: It will connect the Barak Valley with Mizoram, fostering socio-economic growth.
  • NH-515 Dhemaji District: The project will improve the connectivity between North Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
  • 4-Laning of Kalibor Tinali-Dolabari road including the construction of a new 2-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra river on National Highway 715 with an estimated construction cost of 837 INR-Crore.
  • 4-Laning of Dokmoka-Loring Thepi road: On NH-29 with a projected construction cost of 266 INR-Crore.
  • 2-laning of: Powamara to Bataia, Trinokhal to Mundamala and Lowarpuwa to Churaibari on NH-8 at the construction cost of approximately 167 INR-Crore.
  • Strengthening of Numaligarh-Khatkhati road: on NH-129 worth approximately 146 INR-Crore.
  • The foundation stone for the 4-laning/ 2-laning with paved shoulder of Tinsukia-Makum bypass was laid with an estimated cost of 459 INR-Crore.
  • The foundation stone for the 2-laning with paved shoulder of Bogapani to Golai Gaon with Digboi bypass was laid with the project cost of approximately 357 INR-Crore.
  • The foundation stone for the 2-laning with paved shoulder of Golai Gaon to Ledo with Margherita-Ledo bypass was laid with an estimated project cost of 643 INR-Crore.
  • The foundation stone for the 4-laning of Kandulijan Gaon to Simen Chapori road at the anticipated project cost of 562 INR-Crore was laid.

Apart from these, the Union Minister also approved the proposed ring road in Guwahati, asked to prepare a detailed project report for the 32-km long elevated corridor at Kaziranga (aimed to reduce the fatalities among wild animals in the region), and approved to allocate 600 INR-Crore from the central fund towards the Asom Mala scheme.
