Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on Wednesday, 24 July, the imminent start of construction on two major national highway projects in Odisha. The projects are: ‘Coastal Highway’ and the ‘Capital Region Ring Road’.
The 413 Km long, 4-lane Coastal Highway will be built in three sections: from Rameswar to Ratanpur, Ratanpur to Digha, and Jamujhadi to Dhamra. This grand project, part of the Bharatmala initiative, will cost an estimated INR 23,882 Crore. The detailed project report (DPR) and related approvals are almost complete. Construction of the Coastal Highway will start soon.

The Capital Region Ring Road is a 111 Km long project, approved under Bharatmala Pariyojana. The project is estimated to cost INR 6,092 Crore. The proposed 6-lane ring road, connecting Khurda, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack, will be a milestone in Odisha’s communication sector under the Purvodaya scheme. Both these projects mark a renewed push for crucial infrastructure developments in Odisha.
