The Union government has granted clearance for the Parandur greenfield airport in Tamil Nadu’s Kanchipuram district. The Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports approved this on Tuesday, July 9, following an application from Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO).
The Tamil Nadu government plans to build the Parandur airport on an anticipated 4,000 Acres of land parcel, at an estimated cost of INR 32,704 Crore. This upcoming airport will have the capacity to handle 100 million passengers a year. Moreover, it will be constructed in four phases. The Parandur airport boasts two runways, three terminal buildings, taxiways, an apron, and a cargo terminal.

The construction of the first phase will commence in January 2026 and conclude by December 2028. Additionally, the new airport in Parandur is expected to create around a thousand jobs and contribute USD 1.5 billion to the local economy annually. Notably, it will save 1.5 Million Tonnes in carbon dioxide emissions each year. Subsequently, the remaining phases will be developed, with the final phase set to be completed by December 2046.
