Prime Minister Narendra Modi will initiate the “first blast” for the Shinku La tunnel, today, June 26, in Ladakh. The 4.1 Km-long tunnel will ensure all-weather connectivity from Manali to Leh.
The upcoming Shinku La tunnel will tower at a staggering 15,800 Feet, becoming the world’s highest. It is expected to surpass China’s Mila tunnel post completion. Estimated to cost INR 1,681 Crore, the tunnel is crucial for military mobility and logistics.

Additionally, this upcoming highest tunnel offers a third route to Ladakh amid ongoing India-China tensions. The Shinku La tunnel will feature cross-passages every 500 Meters and will take at least two years to complete. Once finished, it will surpass China’s Mi La tunnel at 15,590 Feet. This remarkable engineering feat will not only ensure swift movement of troops and heavy weapon systems but also foster economic and social development in Ladakh.
