Puri Railway Station is undergoing a rapid transformation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and is expected to be operational by July 2025, announced the Deputy CE/Con-I/Bhubaneshwar Prabhat Singh, on Sunday, January 14.

The project is being developed at an estimated cost of INR 161.51 Crore and is aimed at enhancing the station’s train handling capacity and providing better passenger facilities. The scope of work envisages transforming the station into a world-class facility including a G+3 building with a concourse, an enhanced platform area, an extensive parking space with a dedicated EV charging zone, escalators, restrooms for TTE, a retiring room with 150 beds on the top floor, dormitory facilities, and improvised amenities for pilgrims.

The project is poised to increase Puri Station’s capacity from the current 16,000 passengers to 60,000 passengers. It takes its design inspiration from the Kalinga temple’s architecture and will feature large ceiling heights, fewer columns, and barrier-free access with escalator elevators.
