The MPWRD’s Sitapur-Hanumana Micro Irrigation Project entails a large-scale irrigation initiative aimed at improving water distribution efficiency as well as supporting agricultural needs in Madhya Pradesh.
Project Overview:
The Sitapur-Hanumana Micro Irrigation Project (Pressurized Pipe Irrigation System) in Sihawal, Madhya Pradesh, is a large-scale irrigation initiative aimed at improving water distribution efficiency and supporting agricultural needs in the region. Spearheaded by the Madhya Pradesh Water Resources Department (MPWRD), this project focuses on building a composite barrage on the River Son. The project has an estimated cost of 3,993.80 INR-Crore and is scheduled to be completed within 60 months.
Scope of Work
The Sitapur-Hanumana Micro Irrigation Project, MP entails the following key components:
- Composite Barrage: A 268.90 Million Cubic Meters (MCM) gross capacity composite barrage, with a live capacity of 250.30 MCM and dead storage of 18.60 MCM, is to be constructed across the Son River.
- Submergence Area: The project will result in the submergence of approximately 3,290 hectares (Ha) of land, including 1,290 Ha of private as well as 2,000 Ha of government land.
- Pressurized Pipe Irrigation System: Rising and gravity mains will supply water for micro-irrigation, delivering it directly to farmers’ fields. The system will further maintain a residual pressure head of 25 Meters at each 5 Ha distribution point, with a duty of 0.33 Liters/Second/Ha for micro-irrigation (drip/sprinkler) by rotation.
- Water Distribution Network: The project will develop a comprehensive distribution network, including gravity mains, main lines, branch lines, and regulating systems. Moreover, these will be equipped with SCADA and automation to ensure efficient water management.
- Flood Management: The barrage structure is designed to handle a flood discharge of up to 77,000 Cubic Meters (CuM) per second. it will further meet the safety standards and criteria set by the Water Resources Department.
The project also includes the preparation of land acquisition and rehabilitation cases, as well as obtaining all necessary environmental and forest clearances. Once completed, the Sitapur-Hanumana Micro Irrigation Project will provide a reliable water supply for a cultivable command area of 120,000 Ha.
