The Union government approved an estimated INR 2,698 Crore for Himachal rail expansion. As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana 2024, four railway stations in Himachal Pradesh—Shimla, Amb-Indora, Baijnath-Paprola, and Palampur—are set to receive modern upgrades.
The under-construction Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri rail line will progress rapidly with the new railway budget allocated to the state. Furthermore, they completed the land acquisition for the Baddi-Chandigarh rail line, and construction will now commence. They will also expand the Nangal-Talwara rail line using this budget.

Notably, the government plans to extend the 63 Km long Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri rail line to Leh. This rail line will pass through Bilaspur, Mandi-Manali, Sissu, Darcha, and Keylong Kharsu, stretching approximately 489 Km. From Bilaspur to Leh, the line will include 62 tunnels and 40 stations.
The government aims to complete the Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri rail line by December 2026. However, the ‘rail vikas nigam’ is ambitiously targeting 2025. So far, they have spent about INR 5,190 Crore on this project. The significant funding approved for Himachal rail expansion marks a major step forward for the region’s infrastructure development.
