The Union Cabinet has approved a development plan for the Varanasi Airport, also known as Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. The project costs an estimated INR 2,869.65 Crore.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will oversee the development of the upcoming project. The new Varanasi airport will cover approximately 75,000 SqM. The expansion plan includes a new terminal, runway extension, and apron expansion. It will accommodate 6 Million passengers annually and 5,000 peak-hour passengers.

Moreover, the airport’s runway will be further extended to 4,075 Meters long and 45 Meters wide. Meanwhile, the new apron will park 20 aircraft. After completion, the Varanasi airport’s passenger capacity will increase from 3.9 Million to 9.9 Million per year.
