Varanasi: Six-Lane tunnel to be built along Jaunpur-Lucknow highway

Construction of the six-lane Varanasi Tunnel along the Jaunpur-Lucknow National Highway (NH-19) will commence in April 2025. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has finalized a detailed project report and is actively refining the blueprint. 

The estimated project cost is 362 INR-Crore. Spanning around 600 M, the Varanasi Tunnel will feature an additional 2.09 Km of connecting roads. Moreover, the route will begin at Pure Raghunath Singh village and end at Siswan village, seamlessly traversing three villages in the Greenfield corridor.

Authorities have determined that around 10.59 Hectares of land will be acquired for this project, with land acquisition costs expected to reach 218 INR-Crore. Furthermore, the Varanasi Tunnel will streamline travel, enhance infrastructure, and mark a new milestone in India’s highway development.
