Work has officially started on the Kharghar-Turbhe Tunnel Link Road (KTLR). This 2,099 INR-Crore project will slash travel time between Turbhe and Kharghar from 40 to just 10 minutes. It will also ease congestion on the bustling Sion-Panvel highway, offering smoother connectivity.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), in collaboration with CIDCO, developed a detailed project report. The plan includes a 1.8 Km twin tunnel through Kharghar hill and a 3.4 Km elevated viaduct. Starting at Turbhe, the road will parallel the Sion-Panvel highway up to Juinagar railway station. Furthermore, Rithwik Projects Pvt secured the contract in October 2023, while the letter of award for the design, construction and commissioning was granted in February this year.
