PM Modi launches & lays foundation stone for projects worth INR 29,400 Crore in Mumbai

On Saturday, July 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched and laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth over INR 29,400 Crore in Mumbai. The ceremony was held at the NESCO Exhibition Centre, Goregaon. These development projects represent a significant investment in infrastructure, connectivity, and employment schemes. 

Foundation Stones Laid by PM Modi for Various Projects in Mumbai:

  • Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project: The Prime Minister initiated the tunnel work for the Project, valued at an estimated INR 6,300 Crore. It will enhance road connectivity from the Western Express Highway at Goregaon to the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. Spanning approximately 6.65 Km, GMLR will provide direct access from the Western suburbs to the new Navi Mumbai airport and the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
  • Kalyan Yard Remodelling project: This remodeling will increase the yard’s capacity, handling more trains, reducing congestion, and improving operational efficiency. The Kalyan Yard will help segregate long-distance and suburban traffic.
  •  Multimodal cargo terminal: The Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai will occupy an anticipated 32,600 SqM. It is expected to create local employment opportunities, handling cement and other commodities.

Additionally, PM Modi committed the country to rail connectivity initiatives, including:

Lokmanya Tilak Terminus: PM Modi further dedicated new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. The new, longer platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus will accommodate longer trains, increasing passenger capacity and enhancing the station’s traffic handling.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station: He extended platforms no. 10 and 11 by approximately 382 Meters featuring a cover shed and washable apron. This extension will support trains with up to 24 coaches, boosting passenger capacity.

Moreover, Prime Minister Modi launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, with an outlay of around INR 5,600 Crore. This transformative internship program aims to tackle youth unemployment by offering skill enhancement and industry exposure opportunities for young individuals aged 18 to 30 years.
