Kolkata: Metro Railway invites bids for the Yellow Line extension

With clearances from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Metro Railway has invited bids for the civil construction of Kolkata’s Yellow Line underground extension. The proposed 6.8 Km stretch will extend from the Kolkata Airport to Birati.

The estimated cost of the project is INR 1,330 Crore. This contract is part of the 11.2 Km extension of the Yellow Line to Barasat in the northeastern suburbs of Kolkata. It includes the creation of a 3.6 Km metro tunnel, an underground station building at Birati, and subway work for both Birati and Michael Nagar stations.

AAI also granted Metro Railway the eagerly anticipated NOC to begin work between the airport and Michael Nagar. The extension of the Yellow Line project is set to finish within two and a half years. The contractor will handle the design, procurement, and construction of the tunnel and stations, including all necessary systems and finishes.
