Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil a slew of transformative projects before the 2024 elections in a monumental push towards advancing India’s infrastructural prowess. In a resounding stride towards ‘Viksit Bharat‘, these five major Infra Projects encompass the Chenab Bridge of Jammu and Kashmir, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, the Dwaraka Expressway, a pivotal section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, and the Agra Metro. These groundbreaking initiatives testify to India’s commitment to modernization and promise to redefine the country’s transportation landscape, amplifying connectivity and economic opportunities across regions.
Chenab Bridge
The Chenab Bridge is poised to stand as the world’s highest rail bridge, an engineering marvel to adorn the picturesque landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. This monumental structure is poised to establish vital rail connectivity, linking the Kashmir Valley with Jammu. Spanning approximately 13,115 meters and towering at an astounding 359 meters, the bridge will extend over the majestic Chenab River, connecting Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district.
As an integral part of the Katra Banihal line, it plays a pivotal role in finalizing the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project, enhancing crucial connectivity throughout the region. The completion of the “Golden Joint” in 2022 marked a significant milestone, followed by subsequent track laying and the inaugural track-mounted vehicle trial conducted in 2023.
Mumbai Trans Harbour Link
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is implementing the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, scheduled for inauguration on January 12. It connects Mumbai city with mainland Navi Mumbai, starting at Sewri in South Mumbai and terminating at Chirle near Nhava Sheva. This remarkable engineering marvel spans 21.6 km and will drastically reduce travel time between the mainland and the island city to just 20-25 minutes.
The MTHL, categorized as a Regional Development Project, is being developed at an estimated cost of INR 18,000 Crore. Envisioned as a catalyst for economic growth in Navi Mumbai and parts of Raigad District, the MTHL aims to enhance connectivity, especially with the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Dwaraka Expressway
The Prime Minister is poised to inaugurate the Gurgaon stretch of the monumental Dwarka Expressway, marking a significant milestone for the Delhi-NCR region. This expressway, designed as India’s first fully access-controlled 8-lane elevated route, features an 8-lane tunnel and four-level interchanges. Stretching 29.10 km from Mahipalpur (Shiv Murti) in Delhi to Kherki Dhaula via New Gurgaon (Gurugram) in Haryana, this project, initially known as the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), was transferred to NHAI in 2016.
J Kumar Infraprojects and Larsen & Toubro lead the construction, showcasing an impressive array of infrastructure elements, including 20+ flyovers/bridges, two rail overbridges/underpasses, 11 vehicle underpasses, 20 underground pedestrian crossings, and a 2.5m wide cycle/bike path, with a total estimated cost of INR 8,662 Crore.

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate two new segments of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, this time in Gujarat and Rajasthan, adding to the previous openings in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. These extensions, connecting Ankaleshwar to Vadodara in Gujarat and a specific stretch in Rajasthan, will further slash travel time between the pivotal economic centers, Delhi and Mumbai. The expressway, a 1,350-km controlled-access highway initiated by the government in March 2019, aims to halve the travel duration between these prominent cities from 24 to 12 hours. Spanning five states and encompassing greenfield sites earmarked for warehousing hubs, this eight-lane route is envisioned to enhance national connectivity.
With the PM inaugurating the initial stretch from Sohna in Haryana to Dausa in Rajasthan on February 12, 2023, and the Delhi-Vadodara section on October 2, 2023, these imminent inaugurations represent another stride towards bolstering nationwide transportation links.
The entire 1,350 km long Delhi–Mumbai Expressway has been divided into 4 sections with a total of 52 construction packages/tenders, where the length of each package is between 8 km to 46 km.

Agra Metro
The last Mega project the Prime Minister is anticipated to inaugurate is the 6-km metro stretch in Agra leading to the Taj Mahal, a significant step to alleviate congestion and enhance passenger convenience for the multitude of tourists visiting the city each year. This pivotal stretch, part of a priority corridor comprising an underground section, marks the fourth operational metro project in Uttar Pradesh, following Noida, Lucknow, and Kanpur.
Developed by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), the project encompasses two corridors: Sikandara to Taj East Gate and Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar, with an estimated combined cost of INR 8,379.62 Crore. Upon completion, this metro network will seamlessly connect key points across the city, including railway stations, bus stops, and significant tourist attractions.
