GAIL (India) Ltd, the top gas supplier in the country, intends to construct an ethane cracker worth INR 40,000 crore near its LNG import plant in Maharashtra.

GAIL is actively seeking land in the coastal region of Dabhol, Maharashtra for this 1.5 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) cracker project. The company plans to import ethane from the US to support the project.

The proposed cracker will have the capacity to crack up to 40 percent of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), providing the flexibility to switch to a more cost-effective feedstock and maximize profit margins.
