Utilizing Biltrax Construction Data for Strategic Insights

Of these, Biltrax’s BX-1 platform is tracking 1,589 live transport & sports infrastructure projects valued at 636,382 INR-Crore (75.76 USD-Billion). These further include 252 sports infrastructure projects costing 21,045 INR-Crore (2.5 USD-Billion) and 1,337 transport infrastructure projects valued at 615,365 INR-Crore (73.26 USD-Billion).

Additionally, our extensive coverage includes information on 26,875 project owners, 10,046 architectural & consulting firms, and 5,197 construction firms. These entail more than 6.7 million approvals for over 16,000 leading brands active across India.

Government Initiatives

The previous quarter (April to June) saw a slowdown in project announcements due to the election code of conduct. Now, with the elections concluded, the government has resumed its aggressive push for urban transportation across the country. 

  • In the Union Budget 2024-25 announced in July, the government allocated 24,931.98 INR-Crore for capital expenditure for metro rail and Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) projects, which is 7.8% higher than the previous year. 
  • In August 2024, the Union Cabinet gave its approval to 3 new metro projects. These include the Bengaluru Metro Phase-3, estimated to cost 15,611 INR-Crore, the Thane Integral Ring Metro costing 12,200 INR-Crore and the extension of the Pune Metro costing 2,954 INR-Crore. Additionally, 2 proposals from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) were cleared. These include a new civil enclave at Bagdogra airport, at Siliguri in West Bengal worth 1,549 INR-Crore and a civil enclave at Bihta, Bihar worth an estimated 1,413 INR-Crore.
  • The Union Cabinet also approved eight new railway projects in various states worth a total estimated 24,657 INR-Crore. The projects cover 14 districts in the seven States of Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana and West Bengal. These are aimed at further increasing the existing railway network by 900 Km.
  • The Airports Authority of India (AAI) made a draft plan that shows it is planning to more than double its airport count to 300 by 2047 backing an eightfold increase in passenger traffic. This will involve developing existing airstrips into full-scale airports and building new ones from scratch. Around 70 airstrips can be developed into full-fledged airports to handle narrow-body aircraft such as A320 or B737. Furthermore, nearly 40 airstrips can be developed to handle smaller aircraft.

Overview

In Q2 FY 2024-25 (July-September 2024) Biltrax’s BX-1 platform documented 35 projects under transport & sports infrastructure segments at a combined cost of 5,053 INR-Crore (more than 600 USD-Million). Additionally, 77 tenders were identified during this period, of which more than 53 are currently active, alongside 68 awarded contracts totaling 5,333 INR-Crore.

North Zone – Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Ladakh. 

Northeast Zone – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura. 

East Zone – Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal. 

West Zone – Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra. 

South Zone – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Telangana. 

Central Zone – Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh.

The South zone accounted for over 75.64% of the total construction value, driven by major transport projects in Karnataka. Simultaneously, the West and Northeast zones saw the highest volume of tracked projects.

A. North Zone

4 of the 5 projects mapped in the North zone are coming up under the Sports Infrastructure segment. Uttar Pradesh, in particular, proposed 2 of these projects. In the transport sector, Omaxe Limited emerged as a leading private player by securing major contracts from the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC). These involve the construction of bus stations cum commercial complexes at eight locations, with an estimated total cost of 840 INR-Crore. Meanwhile, Varindera Constructions Ltd (VCL) bagged contracts from the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) to redevelop the Gurgaon railway station and construct a multi-modal transit hub at Paharganj, New Delhi. These projects are expected to cost a combined 718 INR-Crore.

B. Northeast Zone

In Q2 FY 2024-25, a significant project was tracked in the Northeast zone by Ircon International Ltd. It is coming up with a Multi-Modal Transit Hub at Rangpo Railway Station, Sikkim at an estimated 117 INR-Crore. Moreover, the Public Works (Building & NH) Department (PWD) Assam emerged as the top government developer in Q2 FY 2024-25. During this quarter, BX-1 mapped 11 tenders from this organization aggregating to 212 INR-Crore. Additionally, the Northeast Frontier Railway has issued a retender for the redevelopment of Dimapur Railway Station in Nagaland, with an estimated cost of 286 INR-Crore. 


C. East Zone

The East zone saw significant developments, with BX-1 recording 8 awarded contracts amounting to 2,117 INR-Crore. Among these, Ranjit Buildcon Ltd secured two key packages for the Bhubaneswar Metro Phase-1 Line-1 (BBC-04 & BBC-05), valued at 1,524 INR-Crore.

D. West Zone

In the West zone, the Thane Metro Project – Package 1 emerged as a high-value project, comprising 65% of the documented project value. This package, costing approximately 500 INR-Crore, involves constructing six elevated metro stations. The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation has floated a tender for a Detailed Design Consultant for this project. Additionally, based on the tenders tracked on BX-1, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has issued five tenders for metro projects. These include Lines 4, 4A, 6 (Package 1 & 3), and 9 of the Mumbai Metro worth a total estimated 4,315 INR-Crore.

E. South Zone

In the South zone, the Karnataka government is making significant efforts to expand the transport system, particularly in urban centers like Bangalore. BX-1 platform has mapped 2 major projects in the last quarter, the Bangalore metro phase 2 extension (Madavara – Tumakuru) involving an estimated 2,500 INR-Crore and KRIDE Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project, Bangalore (Channasandra – Rajankunte) valued at around 1,000 INR-Crore. Additionally, the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) has floated a tender for consultancy services for the development of an International Cricket Stadium at Coimbatore at an estimated cost of 300 INR-Crore.


F. Central Zone

The Central zone witnessed significant railway station redevelopment activity based on data tracked on our platform. Jhajharia Nirman Ltd secured the contract for the Bilaspur Railway Station redevelopment at 440 INR-Crore. Meanwhile, CDS Infra Projects Ltd won the contract for Durg Railway Station, valued at 370 INR-Crore. Moreover, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved three major railway projects in Chhattisgarh. These include the Jamshedpur-Purulia-Asansol 3rd Line, Sardega-Bhalumuda New Double Line, and the Bargarh Road-Nawapara Road New Line, with a combined cost of 6,456 INR-Crore. This initiative will further enhance railway infrastructure in the region.
