Mumbai Coastal Road Project: BMC finalises 4 Contractors for Phase 2; work to begin early next year

BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), on Friday, December 22, finalised four infrastructure firms for the second phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRL). The 20.9km-long high-speed corridor will connect Varsova and Dahisar with an estimated construction cost of INR 18,000 Crore.

The project is divided into six packages namely, packages A, B, C, D, E, & F. BMC awarded these packages to APCO Infratech (package A & F), J Kumar InfraProjects (package B) in partnership with NCC Limited, Megha Engineering Pvt Ltd (package C & D), and Larsen and Toubro (L&T, package E).

Package A: This 4.5 km-long corridor will connect Varsova and Bangur Nagar (Goregaon).

Package B: This 1.66 km-long corridor will connect Bangur Nagar and Mindspace (Malad).

Package C & D: This north and south-bound carriageway will run between Mindspace and Charkop (Kandivali). Each carriageway will be 3.66 km long.

Package E: This 3.78 km-long corridor will run between Charkop and Gorai.

Package F: This 3.69 km-long road will connect Gorai with Dahisar.

Ongoing construction of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP) Phase I

Phase II of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project is anticipated to be completed within four years of commencement, whereas work is expected to start within a few weeks. The first phase of the development connecting Marine Drive with Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) is nearing completion and is anticipated to be partially open by February 2024.

Meanwhile, all four infrastructure firms are also involved in multiple civic and infrastructure projects currently under construction in Mumbai.

L&T is executing the work for the current phase of MCRP, while Megha Engineering and NCC Limited have been awarded BMC’s mega INR 6,000 Crore contract for concretising the roads of Mumbai. Furthermore, J Kumar InfraProjects was awarded contracts for the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) and the Mumbai Metro Rail Project.
