In an ode to boost Uttar Pradesh’s power sector, several leading renewable and hydroelectric energy firms have proposed to set up eight projects worth an aggregate cost of more than INR 67,000 Crore. These projects will have a combined capacity of 13,250 MW and are proposed to be launched at the groundbreaking ceremony 4.0 in Lucknow on Monday, February 19, on the sidelines of 14,000 other projects with a combined investment value of an estimated INR 10 trillion.
These projects will be developed in the prime locations of the state, including Sonbhadra (six projects) and one project each at Chandauli and Mirzapur. Major private companies like Torrent Power, Greenko Group, JSW Neo Energy, ACME Cleantech Solutions, Amunra Infratech and Agritech, and Avaada Water Battery have proposed to set up their plants.

The biggest project among these includes Torrent Power‘s proposed 4150 MW Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in the Sonbhadra district. The company will invest an estimated INR 24,200 Crore in this project.
The second biggest project will be the Greenko Group‘s power project worth an estimated INR 17,000 Crore at Sonbhadra. It is anticipated to generate 3660 MW of energy and will make a transformative impact in the Obra block of the economically backward parts of the district.
Uttar Pradesh is also targetting to achieve 1MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum) green hydrogen capacity. The state government had signed MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) worth INR 2.73 Trillion with 20 companies during the Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit 2023.
