Project Overview:

The Uttarakhand Government had recently floated a tender for selecting a contractor for the Song Dam Drinking Water Project in Dehradun. This initiative involves building a dam over the River Song, near Sondana Village, to solve drinking water issues in Dehradun and adjoining areas.

The project is spearheaded by the Uttarakhand Project Development and Construction Corporation Ltd (UPDCC), which will execute the civil works. The project, with an estimated construction cost of INR 1,306 Crore, is expected to be completed within 60 months of commencement.

Scope of Work

The Song Dam project involves constructing a 130.6M high concrete gravity dam across the River Song. Key components of the project include:

  • Two main orifice spillways
  • A high-level spillway
  • A mild-steel pipe on the river’s left bank for diverting flood discharge (Diameter 2M, Length 350M, Thickness 10MM)
  • A water conductor system MS pipe from Song Dam to the water treatment plant near the Khalangar War Memorial

Additionally, a 12M high concrete upstream coffer dam will be developed. The project also includes the design, manufacturing, erection, and commissioning of all hydro-mechanical works related to the dam.
