BRO to construct airfield at strategic Nyoma belt of eastern Ladakh

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is set to build an airfield in the strategically important Nyoma belt of eastern Ladakh at an estimated cost of INR 218 Crore

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lay the foundation stone for the airfield via videoconferencing on September 12.

The Nyoma Advanced Landing Ground has played a crucial role in transporting personnel and materials during the ongoing standoff with China since 2020. It has witnessed the operations of Chinook heavy-lift choppers and the C-130J special operations aircraft.

On September 12, Singh will inaugurate and dedicate 90 infrastructure projects worth INR 2,941 Crore that have been constructed by the BRO. Additionally, he will also inaugurate the reconstructed and upgraded Bagdogra and Barrackpore airfields in West Bengal, which were successfully revamped by the BRO at a cost of INR 529 Crore.
