Coromandel International, a prominent manufacturer in the fertilizer industry, has announced plans to invest INR 1,000 Crore in setting up a new plant. It will be a Phosphoric Acid-Sulphuric Acid complex facility located in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.

The project will include a proposed 650 TPD (tonnes per day) phosphoric acid facility that will utilize advanced DA-HF (Dihydrate Attack-Hemihydrate Filtration) process technology and an automated DCS system. This investment will enhance backward integration capacities and replace over 50% of the Kakinada plant’s imported acid requirement for fertilizer manufacturing.

Additionally, Coromandel plans to set up a 1,800 TPD sulphuric acid plant to meet captive needs in phosphoric acid manufacturing. This move will also augment power generation from waste heat.

Coromandel’s Kakinada plant, with a capacity of around 2 million tonnes, is already India’s second-largest phosphatic fertiliser facility, accounting for approximately 15% of the nation’s NPK fertiliser production. The upcoming project will significantly contribute to India’s NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium) fertiliser output. The company held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, April 26 for the project, which is expected to commence within 2 years.
