The groundwork (cleaning, ground leveling, and setting boundary pillars) for the construction of South India’s largest Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Obalapura, Bengaluru, with an estimated cost of INR 1770 Crore has started. The full-fledged construction is expected to start in March 2024.

The MMLP is being developed over an anticipated 400 Acres of land parcel and will handle 30 Million Metric Tonnes of Cargo by 2070. It will host logistics, warehousing, and cold storage facilities along with a few custom facilities. A special purpose vehicle (SPV), named Multimodal Logistics Park Prvt Ltd, has been formed between three stakeholders – NHAI’s National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML), Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board, and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) to oversee the development of this project.

The SPV signed an agreement with a private firm, PATH Bengaluru Logistics Park Pvt Ltd to develop this project on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. The project will be developed in three phases with Phase I anticipated to be completed in 2026, Phase II to be completed in 2034, and the third phase to be completed by 2039.

The first phase of the MMLP will get road connectivity with the surroundings, including a trumpet interchange on NH 648 and a 4 km-long common access road for the MMLP and the KIADB industrial park. In the second phase, 1.1 km-long sidings will be created connecting the MMLP directly to the main railway line and the Dodbele train station by 2028.

The Multimodal Logistics Park is aimed at reducing overall logistics costs from 13% to 9% as well as making exports competitive. It is also poised to boost the industrial areas in Bangalore, Tumakuru, and the surrounding districts, along with facilitating connectivity through various modes of transport.
