Himadri Speciality to invest INR 220 Crore in Bengal to expand speciality carbon black capacity

Kolkata-based speciality chemicals giant Himadri Speciality Chemicals Ltd recently announced plans to expand its speciality carbon black capacity. The company will invest an estimated INR 220 Crore in this brownfield expansion project, situated in West Bengal.

The upcoming project will be located in Singur of Hooghly district and is proposed to be completed within 18 months of commencement. It will add nearly 70,000 Tonnes Per Annum capacity to the company’s current portfolio, taking it to 2.5 Lakh tonnes. The company’s current production capacity is at 1.8 Lakh tonnes. The project is expected to be the world’s largest speciality carbon black capacity at a single site post-completion.

Additionally, Himadri is setting up India’s first commercial lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) cathode active material facility. It has partially acquired a stake in Invati Creations and Australian start-up Sicona Battery Technologies to produce high-quality lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery materials.
