PM Modi launches development projects worth INR 32,000 Crore in Jammu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, February 20, inaugurated, dedicated to the nation, and laid the foundation stone for a slew of development projects worth an estimated INR 32,000 Crore in Jammu. These projects encompassed crucial sectors such as healthcare, education, railways, roadways, aviation, petroleum, and civil infrastructure.

Modi inaugurated projects worth approximately INR 13,375 Crore towards upgrading educational and skills infrastructure. These include the inauguration of IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Bhilai, IIT Tirupati, IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) Tirupati, the permanent campus of IITDM (Indian Institute of Technology, Design, and Manufacturing) Kurnool, academic and residential campuses of IIT Patna and IIT Ropar, and two campuses of the Central Sanskrit University at Devprayag (Uttarakhand) and Agartala (Tripura).

He also inaugurated AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in Jammu. The project sprawls across an anticipated 227 Acres of land parcel with an estimated cost of INR 1,660 Crore. It comprises a 720-bed hospital, a 125-seat medical college, a 60-seat nursing college, and other facilities.

The projects for which the foundation stone was laid include – the construction of permanent campuses for Indus Central University and IIT Raichur, the construction of academic blocks, hostels, faculty quarters and other facilities at IIT Bombay, the construction of hostels and staff quarters at IIT Gandhinagar, and the construction of a women’s hostel at BHU (Banaras Hindu University).

In the transport sector, the PM laid the foundation stone for two phases of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway, phase II of the Srinagar Ring Road, Kulgam and Pulwama bypass. He also laid the foundation stone for the upcoming petroleum depot in the state.

Furthermore, the foundation stone for the new terminal building at Jammu Airport was laid. The project will be developed over approximately 40,000 SqM of land parcel and will be equipped with modern facilities, catering to 2000 passengers each day. The facility will be environment-friendly and is poised to enhance air connectivity, promote tourism and trade, and drive economic growth in the region.
