Tamil Nadu CM Stalin lays the Foundation Stone of two Flyovers in Madurai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin laid the foundation stone for two flyovers in Madurai on Monday, October 30. The first flyover will be over Melamadai Junction on Sivaganga Road, whereas the other will be over Goripalayam Junction on Alagarkoil Road. The estimated construction cost for both these projects is 275.50 INR-Crore.

The Medamadai flyover will be constructed over the Medamadai junction on Sivaganga Road and will span across 1.1 km. The bridge, with 29 spans, will have a two-lane carriageway of 7.5 m each (separated by a median). The estimated construction cost of this project is 118.79 INR-Crore.

The Goripalayam flyover will cater to the traffic flow from Tamukkam junction to East Veli Street in Nelpettai. It will span over 1.3 km and include a new bridge across the Vaigai River (running parallel to the existing Albert Victor Bridge). There will also be a 700 m arm leading from the Goripalayam junction over Palam Station Road to Sellur. Both the flyover and the Sellur arm will have a one-way carriageway. The main carriageway (including the bridge across the Vaigai River) will be 11 m wide, whereas the Sellur arm will be 7.5 m wide.
