The State Highways Department’s National Highways (NH) wing has initiated the land acquisition process for a new 4-way bypass road connecting Virattipattu and Nagamalai Pudukottai in Madurai. It is estimated to cost INR 260 Crore and will be approximately 3.53 Km long.

The road will start a few meters from the end of the Kochadai grade separator, aimed at facilitating smoother transportation of goods, particularly spices, fruits, and vegetables from Theni into the city. The bypass will include three minor bridges to bypass channels like Kiruthumal and Madakulam without impeding their natural flow. Additionally, a small flyover with an underpass will be developed to circumvent the Bengaluru-Kanyakumari Highway near Nagamalai Pudukottai.
