NIT-Raipur joins hands with Bengaluru firm to set up graphic research center

The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Raipur has signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Vividsparks, to establish a world-class POSIT-based general purpose (GP) Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) research and development center. The project named ViBram, will focus on researching various aspects of Chip design.

The objective of this development is to develop the world’s first GP GPU based on a POSIT number system. It will also have a RISC-V (embedded system) architecture for consumer electronics and a national computational infrastructure. The GP GPU is utilized in smartphones, laptops, desktops, servers, and other digital devices.

The collaboration will not only address India’s computational needs but also facilitate the export of research works and products to other countries. This initiative will offer students technological exposure, paving the way for entrepreneurship.
