PM inaugurates & announces multiple development projects worth INR 20,000 Cr in TN

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, January 02, inaugurated, dedicated to the nation, and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than INR 20,000 Crore in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. These projects aim to strengthen the state’s progress, boost travel, and create 1000s of job opportunities.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the new two-level terminal building at the Tiruchirappalli International Airport worth an estimated INR 1,100 Crore, anticipated to serve more than 44 lakh passengers annually.

The PM also dedicated five railway projects, five roadway projects, two petroleum and natural gas projects, and a port project. These projects include:

In the Railway sector:

  • Doubling of the 41.4km long Salem-Magnesite Junction to Omalur-Mettur Dam Junction.
  • Doubling of the 160km long rail line section from Madurai to Tuticorin.
  • Electrification of the following rail lines:
    Tiruchchirappalli- Manamadurai- Virudhunagar
    Virudhunagar – Tenkasi Junction
    Sengottai – Tenkasi Junction – Tirunelveli- Tiruchendur

These projects aim to improve rail capacity to carry freight and passengers and contribute to economic development and employment generation.

In the Roadways sector:

  • 30km long four-lane road for the Trichy-Kallagam section of NH-81.
  • 60km 4/2-laning of the Kallagam-Meensurutti section of NH-81.
  • 29km long four-laning of the Chettikulam-Natham section of NH-785.
  • 80km two-lane road with paved shoulder for the Karaikudi-Ramanathapuram section of NH-536.
  • 44km four-laning of the Salem-Tirupathur-Vaniyambadi road section of NH-179A.
  • Laid the foundation stone for the 31km stretch of the four-lane road from Mugaiyur to Marakkanam of NH-332A. The project will connect the ports on the East Coast of Tamil Nadu. It will also improve road connectivity to the world heritage site – Mamallapuram, and the Kalpakkam Atomic Power Plant.

These projects aim to facilitate safe and faster travel and improve the connectivity of the industrial and commercial centers of the state.

In the Ports sector:

  • Dedicated the General Cargo Berth-II (Automobile Export/Import Terminal-II & Capital Dredging Phase-V) of Kamarajar Port, to help strengthen India’s trade and boost its economy.

In the Petroleum and Natural Gas sector:

  • Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL)’s 488 km long natural gas pipeline from IP101 (Chengalpet) to IP 105 (Sayalkudi) section of the Ennore – Thiruvallur – Bengaluru – Puducherry – Nagapattinam – Madurai – Tuticorin Pipeline.
  • Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)’s 697 km long Vijayawada-Dharmapuri Multiproduct (POL) Petroleum Pipeline (VDPL).
  • Laid the foundation stone for the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL)‘s 323 km natural gas pipeline from Krishnagiri to the Coimbatore section of Kochi-Koottanad-Bangalore-Mangalore Gas Pipeline II (KKBMPL II).
  • The foundation stone for laying POL pipelines in the Common Corridor for the proposed grassroots terminal at Vallur, Chennai.

These projects will serve as a step towards fulfilling the industrial, domestic, and commercial requirements of energy in the region.
