Overview of the Project:

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has undertaken a significant project of constructing a new 2000 MLD (Million Liters per Day) Water Treatment Plant to enhance the water supply in the Bhandup area. The project includes civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation works for the plant on a design, build, and operate contract.

Objective: The existing water treatment plant, with a capacity of 1910 MLD, is over 44 years old and requires major repairs due to operational constraints. To address this, BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) aims to construct a modern facility with a capacity of 2000 MLD.

The upcoming MCGM water treatment plant will be developed at an estimated construction cost of INR 2,000 Crore and is anticipated to be completed within 36 months. It will have a comprehensive Operation and Maintenance period of around 15 years.

The scope of work involves the construction of the inlet works, filtration, pipelines, roadworks, drainage, sewerage, and landscaping, along with a disinfection system having a minimum of 4 Multioxidants (including Chlorine and Ozone). The project also involves the relocation of HT towers, power supply arrangements, and other necessary permissions.

As of February 2024, the contract for the MCGM water treatment plant, Bhandup has been awarded to Welspun Group.
