Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has partnered with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to establish Asia’s largest Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Mumbai, involving an investment of approximately INR 500 Crore.

The firm has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with BMC to construct a Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant with a daily processing capacity of 1000 tons. This collaboration will facilitate the transformation of 1000 tons of solid municipal waste into roughly 40 tonnes of compressed biogas on a daily basis.

BMC will handle the management of CBG feedstock, which comprises waste collected from local hotels, restaurants, banquet halls, and vegetable markets. They will supervise the collection, segregation, and transportation of the feedstock using dedicated vehicles.

Ashu Shinghal, the Managing Director of MGL, addressed the company’s broader environmental efforts, stating that they are implementing multiple measures to reduce CO2 emissions. He pointed out that many of their compressors run on electricity and mentioned the installation of solar panels at various MGL sites, highlighting the company’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality.
