TATA proposes to set up INR 40,000 crore chip plant in Assam

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that TATA Electronics has submitted a proposal for developing a semiconductor processing plant in Jagiroad, Assam. The company has proposed an investment of 40,000 INR crore for the processing plant.

The OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility will be responsible for Assembling, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) of the silicon chips. TATA is currently awaiting approval from the government of India for the same.

TATA also plans to set up one of India’s largest iPhone assembly plants in Tamil Nadu. The facility will be located in Hosur and will include 20 assembly lines. It is anticipated to be operational within 12-18 months of commencement and will generate 50,000 new job opportunities.
