Udhayanidhi lays foundation stone for INR 409 Cr TNUHDB housing project

CHENNAI: On Saturday, September 23, Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin laid the foundation stone for several housing projects in Koyathope, M S Nagar, and Kotturpuram, which are being undertaken by the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) at a cost of INR 409.74 Crore. 

The work is expected to be completed within 18 months. Across the state, the TNUHDB has carried out reconstruction work on a total of 30,492 tenements with 27,138 located in Chennai and 3,354 in other districts.

A total of 7,582 dilapidated houses have already been demolished, clearing the way for the reconstruction effort. There is a need to construct 9,522 new houses to address housing shortages, and this project requires a budget of INR 1627.97 Crore. Progress has been made, with work commencing on 3,511 houses across eight scheme areas, with an allocated budget of INR 606.01 Crore. 

The construction of the remaining 6,011 houses, spread across 22 scheme areas, is set to commence soon, and it is anticipated that this phase will incur an estimated cost of INR 1021.87 Crore. These efforts represent a significant undertaking in providing much-needed housing solutions.

Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin laid the foundation stone in the three remaining scheme areas in Chennai to construct 2,364 houses at a cost of INR 409.74 Crore.

  • In Koyathope, they will build a total of 324 houses at a cost of INR 61.20 Crore.
  • 240 homes will be coming up in M S Nagar, with an expenditure of INR 41.30 Crore.
  • In Kotturpuram, they are set to construct 1,800 houses at a cost of INR 307.24 Crore.
